Ms. Kalin's work is "loose, not tight because it's a memory," Ms. Heard said. "It's going to be a lot different than a photograph." Her paintings, Ms. Heard added, "are like a moment in time captured."

Ms. Kalin's show highlights her work created from 2000 to 2004. During this time, she has participated in juried shows around the area and has won prized in the Holcomb Farm Art Show and in an art show sponsored by the Simbury Bank & Trust Company. About one-third of her art in the Art Well show is from Mexico.

"I'm excited," she said of her upcoming show, "I've been producing a lot of work in the past four years." Her love of painting has always been within, and now is the time for her to bring it out. "It's the time that I feel the most like me," she said. "It gives me a sense of self. It's just something that I love to do."
